‘Jai Shree Ram’, the debut film of Jul Mukherjee is rooted in incidents from his childhood that had left harrowing and indelible marks of communal rifts in his mind. The story of the film revolves around a Muslim boy who chooses to remain an atheist in a country intolerant to minority sentiments and culture. Jul’s friends, who have worked as the cast and the crew in the film feel that the plot is firmly rooted in reality and highlights the conflicts and contradictions in beliefs and practices. The film is in the final stages of post-production and has already created quite a buzz in the social media and on the web inciting a flurry of hate mails and threat posts from followers of Hindu nationalist organizations.
