Indranil Roychowdhury describes the Bengali film industry and its production and distribution system as a self-consuming and imploding one. Despite the media promotion, the only change is in terms of a shift from the proletariats to a middle class audience, that too a minimal percentage, hardly altering the logic of making a film. Only such a sure-to-fail industry can produce a film like ‘Chander Pahar’, which is as desperate as it is futile. And even then, the media promotions are governed by larger business logic. Considering all the new film releases, unless the system shifts gear, its oblivion is inevitable.
